Urgent help needed from computer experts

Would anyone who is at all familar with computers be willing to pop around Bridge Road asap to have a look at Tom's computer please? It's picked up some sort of virus and continually restarts as it loads up Windows. He has tried getting it to run in Safe Mode although with no success. As he uses it to work from home, any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

As Connor currently has no internet, he's asked me to pass on the message that LURPS has been given the time of 12:00 on Wednesday 30th September in Alex square. It is politely asked that those who wish to participate show up at Alex Square at 9:30 to sort out kit, weapons, scripts (such as they exist) etc. Please, if you can come and help please do!

I'm cross posting this to the LURPS forums. If you know anyone who could/wants to turn up and can't or doesn't know the details, please pass on the message!

Shout out for kit we need

- A pretty "damsel-in-distress" appropriate dress (so nothing in black or blood red) that would fit Katie.

- Necromancer style ritual props including that handy spare fake blood so many of us keep lying around our homes.

- Cleric/relic-ey style props - or rather, one great prop.

- Archetypal "Barbarian" armour, furs, kit to fit Mike.

- Bandit-appropriate bandanas, headscarves, etc.

As a slight change of pace from my more recent LJ posts, I will use this space to announce that I am hoping to run in the relatively near future, 'In Nomine', a game whose meta-plot focuses on the silent yet bloody war between Heaven and Hell and it’s denizens attempts to sway humanity into the light or into the pit. The general mood and style I’m looking for is horror with a slight dash of psychological torment thrown in there for good measure! The players will be humans who are initially unaware of the war but whose rude and sudden awakening to it will leave them frantically trying to survive and protect their immortal souls. Remember that the actions of humans, for good and evil, often are far greater in moral scope than anything that angels and demons could possibly achieve or conceive.

System wise I will be using the In Nomine core rules and will be looking for between four to six players. I heartily encourage players who have not played In Nomine before to step forward as prior knowledge of the setting will not be required but rather will be picked up IC during play, and the 3D6 rules system as it stands is very easy to pick up and assimilate. This does not mean that I will bar anybody who has played In Nomine before but I would ask that if they do play, that they keep their OC knowledge to themselves so as not to give anything away OC! As to when I’m going to run (assuming I get enough players to do so), I’m unsure whether to start it off during the holidays or wait until the start of next term. By and large I think I will adhere to the wishes of the players themselves in this case.

The date is the 5th March in the year of our Lord 2009. You, the players, will be denizens of the city of London leading your regular, mundane lives across the backdrop of the modern world. Possibly some of you might have embraced religion whilst others may not have. It is an interesting fact of our modern world and way of life is that it is so secular in feel, that the new religion is consumerism and the lust for empirical truths. The religious news we hear reported are often in the context of Islamic extremists, or often ignored statements from the Pope or the Archbishop of Canterbury. These examples are of course not hard and fast rules but it is an undeniable fact that religion has lost a lot of it’s authority in recent centuries.

What about faith though? Well faith is another matter entirely as even if your character doesn’t subscribe to a religion, it is at times very easy for them to have occasional moments of faith. Those moments often come in the dead of night when you are lying awake, your mind slowly preparing itself to go into stand-by for the next few hours. In the silence, in the darkness, that is when you can hear it.

That is when you hear the sound of the universe …

And you can hear it singing.

Of course in the cold light of day you dismiss such notions. The mind can play tricks on you and you’re certain that what you thought you heard was just a tune, a jingle that you snatched up in your days travels and were half-remembering in that blissful state between consciousness and sleep.

Well … almost certain.

In any case you have other things on your mind today. You, along with five complete strangers have been called to the home of one Peter Thorn, a solicitor. It seems that you and these five strangers have one thing in common; you were all acquainted with a kind and benevolent gentleman called Derek Hills. Derek was something of a philanthropist and community builder, the sort of man whom you could approach and ask advice on any subject and you would walk away with a clear and definite answer. A generous and independently wealthy man your paths collided one day many years ago in a moment of personal crisis, a crisis that he helped you pull through. Regrettably he died suddenly two weeks ago, and today is the day of the reading of his will, of which you and the five strangers are the only beneficiaries.

In the days, weeks and months to follow you will remember this day as the last day of normality, of blindness, of deafness…

Of safety.
